Fundación María

Fundación María, together with Hospital María, works to change this reality through the Little Hearts program, providing specialized care and hope to hundreds of families. With the funds received through donations, the foundation purchases specialized medical equipment and surgical materials, and also covers lodging, transportation, and meals for volunteer doctors and international medical brigades who come to perform surgeries. In addition, if a piece of equipment breaks down or a surgical supply is missing, Fundación María takes immediate action to resolve the issue.

The process begins with the medical team at Hospital María Pediatric Specialties, where six pediatric cardiologists receive patients from across the country.

They evaluate the most urgent cases, prioritize surgeries, and, when needed, request support from Fundación María to cover supplies, equipment, or procedures the hospital cannot provide.

In many cases, critically ill newborns arrive by ambulance from other hospitals, such as Hospital Escuela, requiring a swift and coordinated response.

Little Hearts is the program driven by Fundación María with the purpose of strengthening the Heart Unit at Hospital María, Pediatric Specialties (HMEP). Through this initiative, we channel the solidarity of donors like you to provide life-saving heart surgeries for children with congenital heart defects, raise awareness about this condition, and help reduce the burden on the pediatric healthcare system.

The goal is clear: no child should be left without treatment due to lack of resources. The funds raised go directly toward critical needs such as medical supplies, medications, the repair of essential equipment, and logistical support for medical brigades.
